Prepare the records behind a rental tax review

Check the tax year, property scope and supporting books before sharing Schedule E or Form 8825 preparation reports.

Illustrative scene of rental owners and their everyday property work.

The quick read

Key points

  • Tax preparation reports depend on what has been booked.
  • Review missing imports, asset records, mileage and escrow activity.
  • Your preparer determines the return, treatment and filed amounts.

Choose the year and scope

Confirm the tax year, selected portfolio and property before exporting. Keep the same period across the reports and supporting documents you share. Explain any midyear start date or incomplete period so your preparer can identify missing records.

Review the books before the export

Use Tax Review to inspect available checks and unbooked activity. Compare income and expense categories with the underlying transactions and source documents. A row left in the import feed is not a booked expense, and an automatically booked match still deserves review.

Include records beyond bank statements

Bring asset purchase documents, depreciation records, mileage logs, lender statements and relevant lease or deposit details to the review. Linked Rentari books exclude some of these records from sync. Check the supported scope before assuming a connected portfolio is complete.

Share questions with the report set

Export the relevant preparation reports and include a short list of unresolved items. A Schedule E or Form 8825 report is not a filed return or a determination of the form your entity should use. These reports are not tax advice; your qualified preparer decides eligibility, treatment and amounts used for filing.

Common questions

Does RentariIQ submit my return?

No. It provides bookkeeping and tax preparation reports for review.

Does a complete checklist establish deductible amounts?

No. Completeness checks help organize records; they do not establish tax eligibility or treatment.
